How to Make Money Blogging: Steal My 5-Step “Blog Flow” Swag

Here’s a quick breakdown of each step within “The Blog Flow”:

Step 1 – Create An Authority Blog

The first step to making money with a blog is to set one up.
But we’re not going to use an amateur blogging platform like Blogger, Tumblr or the free WordPress version.
With those platforms, you don’t actually own your blog, which means you don’t have full control over the customization, user experience or features.
Those are fine if you’re a hobby blogger who just wants to blog for the fun of it. But you’re here to create a real business and income with your blog.
So we’re going to create an authority blog using WordPress.org.
SPOILER ALERT: This does require seed money (about $5 per month for hosting and around $50 for a premium theme), but you will have complete control of your blog, ownership of your content, unlimited customization for branding, and it will be optimized for search engine traffic).
I created a step-by-step tutorial to make it easy for you: how to setup your WordPress blog from scratch.
But I understand technophobia, so for a limited time, I will setup your custom branded website for you.

Step 2 – Create All-Killer, No-Filler Content

The second ingredient to an authority blog is creating high-value content.
High-value content can come in many different forms, such as:
  • a tutorial blog post with lots of screenshots
  • a case study blog post
  • an infographic
  • a blog post with a video
  • a crowdsourced blog post
  • a review blog post
DigitalMarketer has a list of 58 different types of blog posts you can write.
The point is – you want to write content that answers your market’s biggest problems, challenges, and pain points.
Don’t be afraid to give away the goods either. I’ve found that this actually builds more trust with your visitors and makes them feel even more confident about buying your premium content.
So when you’re writing a new blog post, keep this “11-step blog post checklist” in mind:
  1. Is the post length 500+ words or more (ideally 1,000+)?
  2. Can the reader walk away with actionable strategies?
  3. Have you included relevant images?
  4. Have you included a relevant video?
  5. Do you have at least 1 internal link to your own content?
  6. Do you have at least 1 outbound link to another authority’s content?
  7. Less is more – is every sentence as short and concise as possible?
  8. Have you included data/facts that back up your claims?
  9. Did you write for the reader and NOT for the search engines?
  10. Did you keep paragraphs to 2-3 sentences max?
  11. Did you use headlines & bullet points to break up the post?

Step 3 – Include a “Call To Action” In Every Post

At the end of your blog post, tell the reader exactly what he or she should do next.
Ideally, you should direct them to subscribe to your email newsletter so you can follow up with them via email marketing.
But here are some other options:
  • tell them to leave a comment
  • tell them to subscribe or follow you on social media
  • tell them to buy a product or service that you offer
A great leader is clear with his communication – so tell your readers exactly what you want them to do.
If you want to mimic my blogging swagger, you can throw in a clickable image to get people on your email list,
I use Canva to create the image, and Clickfunnels to collect the email lead.

Step 4 – Follow Up With Your Tribe Using Email Autoresponders & Email Broadcasts

As soon as someone subscribes to my email list, they receive an email from me instantly.
Then, I have the option to send out a series of automated emails over the next few days, or even weeks. This is a great way to keep your old blog content alive by adding them to your email autoresponder and sending them out once a week.
Then, I combine the email autoresponder with email broadcasts.
What’s the difference?
A broadcast email is when I type up an email on the spot and send it.
I recommended sending broadcast emails to your tribe at least 3-5x per week.
Some of them should be valued emails to build trust and credibility. Others should be selling your products or services.
Here are some examples:
  • sharing a new blog post or case study
  • sharing a new video
  • sharing a new podcast episode
  • sharing testimonials from your buyers
  • promoting your upcoming webinar
  • sharing value within the email itself (no links)
  • asking them to fill out a survey or questionnaire
  • directing people to an application to work with you
  • directing people to your product pages or sales pages
I use a service called Aweber to set up my autoresponder emails and to send email broadcasts.
Here’s a full tutorial on how to setup your Aweber autoresponder.

Step 5Ask for the Sale

I used to be the blogger who would give away tons of value but never ask for the sale.
Remember, you’re running a business with your blog, not a charity.
It’s great to give away free value on your blog, but you can’t be afraid to sell.
And even worse, you can’t hope that someone will take it upon themselves to buy.
If you’re confident that your product or service can transform someone’s life, then you have a moral obligation to collect the money.
Otherwise, you’re cheating your tribe out of their growth, and your own.
That’s the frame I adopt.
