How to Effectively Use Affiliate Programs on Your Blog

Among the many ways to monetize your blog, using an affiliate program can honestly be the most happy affiliate marketer,Affiliate Program, Make Money Online, Earn Moneymouthwatering. That being said, I must add that not all blogs – in fact, most blogs – will not benefit much from using affiliate programs.

However, since most affiliate programs are free to try, it is not a bad idea to at least try a couple out. The affiliate program I’m most familiar with is the Amazon Associates program, and I will use this program as the basis for this post; it’s simple and effective. You can find a whole variety of others by just using a few simple Google searches.

Before getting into the thick of using an affiliate program, I will outline a few principles that blogs must have in order for any affiliate program to be successful:

  • Your site has good amounts of traffic. This is kind of a no-brainer. If no one is visiting your site. No one will click your affiliate links, purchasing products, and getting you a commission.
  • Your site has a loyal audience. While traffic is a great way to monetize your blog in a number of different ways, I’ve found that having loyal visitors will get you more mileage out of your affiliate program. If they understand that they are supporting your blog by clicking your affiliate links and purchasing stuff from those links, your conversion rate will be huge.
  • Your content is relevant to the products you’re marketing. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen sites that have content that is completely different from their affiliate links. Use affiliate links that would actually interest your audience. Of course, you can be creative with what you link, but make sure it will pay off.

Hooks to Get Those Affiliate Commissions
Once your blog has really satisfied the proper conditions to really get the most out of an affiliate program, it’s time to start looking at different ways to get your readers clicking on your affiliate links and buying products that will get you commissions. Remember that, in the Amazon affiliate program, your readers don’t have to buy the specific product you link to on Amazon; they just have to click your affiliate link and then buy something on Amazon.

Write a Hypothetical Shopping Spree Post
Particularly if your blog reviews products for a particular niche or hobby, this strategy works wonders. Simply write a post on how you would spend $1000 on products related to your blog theme. Like any good blogger, you should call upon your readers to comment how they would spend their money in this situation (with your affiliate links conveniently located next to your call-to-action).

Let Your Readers Write Product Reviews
I used to be sceptical about letting my readers write product reviews for my site, but I’ve found that most of my readers trust other readers than they do me. This makes sense, as a random reader of my blog is less likely to receive money from affiliate products whereas some blogs actually do. Just be sure to use a reader you trust for this.

Best-Sellers
The Amazon Affiliate program shows you which products have the most purchases from your affiliate links. Occasionally, it’s a good idea to post a “best-sellers” list of the products that your readers buy the most. Trust me, other readers are interested in this kind of stuff.
